Drake gives powertrain and steering manufacturers four ways to make gears.

With recent additions of a profile gear grinder and (2) linear motor worm grinders to its lineup of gear processing machines, Drake Manufacturing is giving automakers more choices in producing steering and gear box components.

Drake recommends the best production method for powertrain and steering components from a variety of processing options. The four types of Drake machines can be used individually or part of a flexible manufacturing cell:

Gear Grinders

  • for finish grinding pre-cut gears in one setup with fast change over

Worm Grinders

  • for producing steering worms and other complex geometries needing
    up to 90º power helix

Gear Hobbers

  • for roughing with auto load and probing

Rack Mills

  • that can mill steering racks in 35 seconds to a 0.4 Ra cut tooth finish with magazine load and unload

“No other manufacturer of grinding equipment offers automakers the breadth and depth of steering component experience than we do,” said Jim Vosmik, President. “We can now offer turnkey steering component grinding systems that help automakers compete worldwide.”

All Drake machines are pre-programmed with customers’ parts and are equipped with the latest Fanuc controls. We guarantee good parts out the door from day one.
